The University of New England is able to provide unprecedented access to the Gulf of Maine right from the shores of our main campus in Biddeford. The UNE vessels are operated by a group of experienced Marine 科学s professional staff, all of whom have completed captain’s training as USCG Operators of Uninspected Passenger 船只 and have backgrounds in field logistics and research. Opportunities for students and researchers to operate certain vessels are also available via training.

The Llyr is a 23' center console Maritime Skiff with 250hp outboard, our workhorse used for both near-shore work and research up to 12 miles offshore.

Vitruvius is an 18' center console Maritime Skiff. She is our smallest research vessel, used primarily for upriver and estuary work in the lower Saco River. Vitruvius can also be trailered and used for research in areas outside of Saco Bay.
